DIY Apple Cider Vinegar Remedy For Allergies (And So Much More!)

Today, I’m interested in discussing Apple Cider Vinegar. I’ve used ACV a little before (in the No ‘Poo method of hair washing), but recently I saw my doctor about my seasonal allergies, and she recommended I try taking 1 tsp ACV twice a day to ward off the sniffles, sneezes and congestion that plague me every spring and fall. I’d never heard of doing such a thing, but I thought I’d try it. I stopped my Claritin and gulped town my tsp that evening.

The verdict? It works!Home Remedy for Allergies | sarahkovac.com

Usually at about this time of year, I’ve lost my voice and am having constant sinus headaches. My eyes get itchy and watery… the typical symptoms of seasonal allergies. But in the last week since starting with the Apple Cider Vinegar, the worst I’ve had is very minor congestion (which I’m prone to year round). Yeah, it tastes gross, but ACV comes with a host of other health benefits (as opposed to Clartitin’s potential side effects), so I don’t mind a couple small spoons of the stuff per day. It’s not so bad if you chase it with a swig of water.

The other option is to take ACV in pill form. I haven’t tried this myself, but it seems like a great idea. Have any of you had good experiences with Apple Cider Vinegar pills?

So, does Apple Cider Vinegar help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms? I say yes. And as I take it, I know my body is receiving a multitude of additional benefits. Apple Cider Vinegar can:

  • Reduce sinus infections and sore throats
  • Balance high cholesterol
  • Cure skin conditions such as acne
  • Protect against food poisoning
  • Fight allergies in both humans and animals
  • Prevent muscle fatigue after exercise
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Increase stamina
  • Increase metabolism which promotes weight loss
  • Improve digestion and cure constipation
  • Alleviate symptoms of arthritis and gout
  • Prevent bladder stones and urinary tract infections
  • Remedy bad breath
  • Kill cancer cells

How about that! Have you ever used Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV pills to fight allergies? Did it work for you? Tell me in the comments!

  • I love using ACV in cooking, but I haven’t tried it straight. I’ve been having horrible allergies this spring, for the first time in my life, so it sounds like I need to try it!

      • I cook with ACV by making all of my Salad dressings with it. I use Flaxseed or olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper along with Lemon juice, mixed into the ACV. It makes a very zesty salad dressing, I usually add Manuka Honey for my children’s dressing to sweeten it up a bit.

  • As, you know I have horrid allergies so I am going to try it for sure!!! Can you get it at the grocery store or do you have to go to whole foods or Hy-Vee where they have that health area? Miss you!!-Kaila

  • It does work. I have developed food allergies to certain spices in foods. The problem is I have yet to nail down which spice or combination of spices, exactly. It’s been tricky not knowing what I should avoid. I can eat out periodically without consequence for awhile and then, BAM! My face is inflamed and rashes break out across my skin. I’ve been using Braggs acv to address it. It’s organic with the “mother” in it. I take a swig of it with warm water and honey. Almost immediately, I feel it working and soothing in my body. So yes…it definitely works! I’m thankful to God I don’t have to dope up on over the counter remedies anymore.

  • hi, sarah.
According to Alcat test, i am sensitive to apple. I would like to know will I have sensitive towards ACV as well? thanks.

  • After a week of laryngitis and a horrible wet cough, I just went and opened the bottle of ACV I had in the pantry. I’ve been wanting to try it and you gave me reason to do it tonight. In my haste to drink it quickly off the spoon, I splattered a small drop in my eye. Oops. That distracted me away from the taste, but yes, the water chaser was necessary. Has anyone ever noted that it was not good for the esophagus going down? It definitely burned.

    • I’ve heard that you should always dilute ACV when ingesting, because prolonged use can erode the lining of the esophagus. Stir it into water, a cup of tea, or some apple juice!

  • I am going to the pantry now and try it! I will start taking ACV everyday! At the present I am miserable with headache, sneezing, itchy eyes and sore throat. I should have thought of ACV because last year I was having horrible pain with gallstones and read about taking it for flare ups and it would immediately take away the pain! I have since had my gallbladder removed and haven’t used ACV since but I will now! Thanks for the info!

  • I try to drink 2 tb with 1 tsp of honey in a cup of warm water 1st thing in the morning. If I don’t do that for a day or two, my symptoms slowly start creeping up. I have seasonal allergies, so I get congested, sneezy, watery eyes, etc. I experience 0 symptoms when I drink it and I hate the anti-histamines feel, so it’s great! I use the Heinz kind, but I will be getting the organic ACV and local honey (which helps with allergies) soon. Just another person saying “it works!” Oh, I also haven’t had an ibs flare up since I’ve started drinking this either. BONUS!
